The
Beatles' first ever single was this one, 'Love Me Do' and
when it was first released in October 1962 it made a respectible
17 in the charts. The single dropped from the charts whilst
Parlophone were still using the red label design for their
45s.
By 1963
when the label style changed to black 'Love Me Do' had long
fallen out of favour by the fans who were instead fixed
on singles like From Me To You and She Loves You. Couple
this along with the facts that the single was by then unavailable
to buy and had to be specially ordered in, and both songs
on the single featured on the 'Please Please Me' album which
all the fans had.
Because
of this mixture is it almost impossible to find a 2nd pressing
copy of the single on the black Parlophone label today.
The only people who would have pre-ordered this were people
looking to replace their original copies, and most of them
just bought the album instead. This is an extremely rare
example of this record and one that these days pretty much
never comes up for sale! |
